I’ve moved around a lot in my life,and apart from one Hogmanay in Edinburgh, this is usually the time of year when I go home to my family. It’s always interesting to see how we’ve all changed and grown in our time apart.
These long separations and reunions helped inform the story of Tom Raines, the main character of INSIGNIA. The beginning of INSIGNIA sees him parting ways with his father and leaving behind a nomadic life of moving from casino to casino, to joining the Intrasolar Forces and catapulting to prominence as a trainee fighter in World War Three. But as much as INSIGNIA is about entering a new life, it’s also about Tom’s shifting place in his old life– because we never really lose the past, we just learn to see it with new eyes.
